Cybersecurity researchers consistently note that procurement, accounts payable, HR, and customer service are increasingly the front line of impersonation fraud. Internal awareness campaigns, simulated deepfake drills, and clear escalation paths matter more than any single piece of software.

    The legal landscape is moving slowly. Senators Chris Coons, Marsha Blackburn, Amy Klobuchar, and Thom Tillis reintroduced the NO FAKES Act in 2025, aiming to create federal liability for unauthorized digital replicas. Several states, led by California, have passed their own deepfake statutes. None of these will arrive fast enough to undo a wire transfer that has already gone through.
